Statement by GoodWeave upon Release of Harvard Study on Slavery and Child Labor in India's Handmade Carpet Industry

The following statement was issued today by Nina Smith, executive director of GoodWeave, a nonprofit organization founded in 1994 to end child labor in the carpet industry.

GoodWeave's five latest licensees span the continent, represent two countries and a variety of styles but they are all of one mind when it comes to a child-labor-free supply chain for their rugs. Count them in, they say.


GoodWeave participates in USAID tool Labor Link, using the real-time mobile data tool to give rug weavers an anonymous channel to report working conditions and help gather information with inspection and monitoring.
