The Art and Ethical Sourcing of Handmade Rugs

Nina Smith, executive director of GoodWeave USA, will lead a panel discussion on May 17, The Art and Ethical Sourcing of Handmade Rugs. Rug designers/importers Rosemary Hallgarten, Malene B, Tania Johnson and Robin Gray will share the inspiration behind their own rug collections and why they are dedicated to having their rugs GoodWeave® certified child-labor-free.

After the discussion and catered luncheon, a hand picked selection of New York designers are given an opportunity to design their own brand rug to be exclusively sold through ALT for Living. The top three winners will have their designs hand woven in Nepal by adult artisans into a one-of-a-kind, 6' x 9' area rug, presented to you by ALT for Living and featured in COVER magazine. Partner company Warp & Weft is hosting a raffle fundraiser to celebrate the opening of their new Manhattan showroom. All proceeds will benefit GoodWeave.

Attendance at the event is not required to win the stunning 8’ x 10’ rug, which will be raffled off for the occasion. Made of 100% hand carded and hand spun Himalayan wool, and hand knotted in Nepal, “Creeks” retails for over $10,000. 

Raffle tickets are available for charitable donations begining at $25. All proceeds benefit GoodWeave. Online sales end February 28.

Faces of Freedom at Gensler

Gensler, a global architecture, design, planning and consulting firm, is hosting a two-month installation of GoodWeave's Faces of Freedom photo exhibition at their headquarters in San Francisco, CA. The exhibit in the Gensler Gallery will be interspersed with a select display of high-end, handmade certified child-labor-free carpets provided by GoodWeave partners Lapchi, RUG STAR, The Rug Company, Stephanie Odegard Collection, emma gardner design and Delinear.
