Position Overview

GoodWeave seeks a Director of Finance and Operations with strong nonprofit and government financial reporting skills to join its team. Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Finance and Operations will manage a $3+ million budget from a diversified funding base of individual, business, foundation and government sources, and lead the finance and operations of GoodWeave International. The position manages and implements all day-to-day finance and audit process, including the oversight of an outsourced accounting team; leads annual budget and multi-year forecast development; conducts strategic financial analysis; and coordinates the human resource function including benefits administration and policy development; and reporting. In addition, the Director of Finance and Operations provides support and direction to overseas country offices in India, Nepal and Afghanistan.

The Director of Finance and Operations will balance strategy and implementation playing a critical role on the senior leadership team as GoodWeave continues to expand its market driven model into new sectors and countries. Responsibilities:

Finance

  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the organization's fiscal functions and performance to ensure that the financial resources of GoodWeave are optimally managed to achieve programmatic success.
  • Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner to senior management and GoodWeave’s board of directors clearly communicating financial and organizational trends to nonfinancial managers.
  • Manage outsourced accounting firm who provides general ledger, payroll processing and month end close support.
  • Perform in-house routine accounting activities including expense approvals and coding, wire transfers, and cash receipts processing.
  • Collate financial reporting materials for all donor segments, including government reporting, and provide all financial, project/program and grants accounting.
  • Provide the CEO and project managers grant budgets and reporting that are in compliance with all contractual and programmatic requirements. This includes interpreting funder rules and regulations and disseminating information to appropriate personnel.
  • Monitor budget and expense trends; recommend and implement corrective actions as required.
  • Manage quarterly billing for GoodWeave’s 140+ importer licensees globally and monitor associated accounts payable/receivable.
  • Evaluate all grant awards and review all terms and conditions to ensure compliance with accounting standards and Federal guidelines and ensure grant funds are utilized as per donor requirements.
  • Prepare and/or review budgets and other financial deliverables, reports and invoices for submission to governmental and other donors.
  • Preparation and/or negotiation of the indirect cost rate and submittal.
  • Lead the annual audit process liaising with external auditors, out-sourced accountants and the finance committee of the board of directors; assess and implement any changes to internal controls identified during process.
  • Oversee the preparation and timely distribution of the GoodWeave’s annual budget and long-term forecasts in accordance with strategic objectives and financial realities.
  • Support local level budgeting by India, Nepal and Afghanistan offices and develop capacity through training, materials provision, and general guidance.
  • Operations

    • Manage vendor relationships, contracts and records.
    • Manage the information technology requirements of the office, serving as the liaison with an outside IT consultant and tracking equipment and software inventory and purchases.
    • Oversee Program Assistant to facilitate procurement, maintenance and inventory of offices supplies and equipment.
    • Ensure timely filing of corporate, and foreign entity registrations, reports, and payments.
    • Coordinate legal functions across the organization, including governance, contracts, and mitigation of liability.
    • Establish policies and procedures to ensure internal control and organizational consistency.

    Human Resources

    • Implement full cycle staffing and recruitment. Ensure that new staff members receive appropriate training and orientation. Develop and refine organization wide orientation resources.
    • Oversee the selection and evaluation programs for personnel, identify and resolve staff deficiencies. Provide training and guidance to all managers regarding basic hiring practices, the performance evaluation process, retention, employee counseling, labor law, and corrective action steps up to and including termination.
    • Coach employees and managers; facilitate the resolution of interpersonal and communications issues.
    • Research, develop, interpret and administer human resources policies and procedures; help oversee and provide counsel and assistance regarding employee relations and organizational matters, workers' compensation, organizational structures, and classification and compensation plans.
    • Oversee benefits administration.

    Qualifications:

    The position requires an experienced financial professional capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic, and high-growth organizational environment. The individual must be have an exceptional grasp of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines and be highly skilled at creating structure and definition in situations that are occasionally uncertain or ambiguous. Candidates are required to provide high level strategic analysis of financial results while also implementing day to day activities. The individual must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and must be able to work effectively across organizational and functional boundaries. The successful candidate will also adapt quickly to change and will champion the advancement of financial planning tools, systems, and controls that enhance management decision-making and productivity.

    Additional Qualifications

    • 5-7 years' progressive experience implementing and directing the activities of a nonprofit accounting department or other financial environment.
    • Knowledge of government procurement and contracting regulations as well as Federal funding systems, policies and procedures including Treasury, Office of Management and Budget, and General Accounting Office.
    • Knowledge of government grant requirements including OMB Circulars A-110, A-122 and A-133 and their respective impacts on nonprofit financial and operation management.
    • Working knowledge of accounting for overhead and indirect cost rate negotiation.
    • Familiarity with risk management concepts including risk assessments, sub-recipient granting and monitoring and internal controls.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required, including the ability to communicate financial and compliance concepts to non-financial colleagues.
    • Detail oriented and analytic with a demonstrated focus on accuracy. .Experience managing outsourced accountants to maximize effectiveness, accuracy and productivity.
    • High comfort level with accounting software. Experience with Intacct preferred.
    • High proficiency with MS Excel and PowerPoint.
    • Bachelor's degree with an emphasis on coursework of a quantitative nature, preferably Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or related fields.
