Director of Communications and Impact

POSITION TITLE: Director of Communications and Impact

ORGANIZATION: GoodWeave International

SUPERVISOR: Chief Executive Officer

GoodWeave International works to end child labor in global supply chains. Focusing initially on the South Asian carpet industry, GoodWeave fulfills its mission by creating market demand for products certified as free of child and forced labor, monitoring supply chains, rescuing and educating child laborers, and providing critical services for weaving families. Having proven its model and built partnerships with some of the world’s leading brands, such as Target Corporation, Macy’s, and The Otto Group, the organization is now expanding operations on the ground and into new product markets. GoodWeave is adapting its market-driven model to other new sectors including home textiles, apparel, fashion jewelry, tea and is helping to create a “better brick” industry in Nepal. Being a part of the GoodWeave team is to be on the frontlines of the burgeoning movement to end modern slavery and of an award-winning social entrepreneurial team.

Overview of the Position:

The Director of Communications and Impact will be responsible for creating and implementing GoodWeave’s organizational communications strategy while ensuring that its campaign and organizational messages and branding are based on robust evidence and communicated convincingly through the website, annual report, editorial coverage and other key channels. The position will be responsible for building and managing media relationships, planning events, collaborating with industry partners, securing strategic partnerships to build the GoodWeave brand. It will also lead monitoring, evaluating and learning from GoodWeave’s program achievements in India, Nepal and Afghanistan, which underpin communications.

The position will oversee the Online Marketing and Media Associate, a Monitoring Evaluation and Learning Associate (to be hired), and coordinate closely with the Director and Associate of Business Development on communications to and with companies and with the consultant position leading advocacy on outreach to other key stakeholders. It will work directly with the country programs, which prepare monthly performance reports that provide the basis for measuring and communicating the results of GoodWeave’s work.

This is a new position, enabled by GoodWeave’s growth in rugs and expansion into new sectors, and by the broadening interest in supply chain solutions to issues of social injustice. It will be part of GoodWeave’s senior management team. It is based in Washington, D.C., with occasional travel.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated, well-organized, adept at building relationships inside and outside the organization, and thrive in an autonomous, fast-paced deadline-driven environment. S/he must also possess a commitment to GoodWeave’s values and work ethic and ideally have experience working on communications campaigns on social issues.
