Dominique Browning Leads Slow Love Life Trip to India

Join Dominique Browning, author of Slow Love: How I Lost My Job, Put On My Pajamas & Found Happiness, on a Slow Love Life trip to India organized by Elevate Destinations. The 14-day-long trip takes participants through several cities, beginning with Delhi and including the wetlands of Shahpura Bagh, the tent city of Nimaj, and ending with a visit with royalty in Udaipur. Day trips include seeing artisans involved in block printing, rug making, and making blue glaze pottery.

After losing her job as editor-in-chief when House & Garden folded, Dominique was forced to reexamine her life and discovered the importance of slowing down, living consciously and not deferring dreams. Now she's realizing one of her dreams, to visit India, and inviting others along with her to share in the adventure of exploring an ancient and beautiful land.

Five percent of the net costs from the trip will go to GoodWeave. Dominique became familiar with GoodWeave through founding board member Stephanie Odegard. She chose GoodWeave to receive a portion of the proceeds because "there's nothing better than beautiful, handwoven carpets. I love the happy accidents that become part of each piece's individual beauty. As with anything handmade, I appreciate the story woven into a carpet; I like the idea that someone's heart and soul have gone into making it. I would never want to own something made by a child forced into labor, exploited for her time, or in any way ill-used. That's why I support GoodWeave. I want to trust the hands in 'handmade'."

For more information on the trip's itinerary and how to participate, visit Elevate Destination's website.

Gray’s “rugs less ordinary” offer inspiration from her interests as a weaver, textile artist, architect and world traveler.

“Robin’s gorgeous RugMark certified rugs remind us that the beauty of a carpet is inextricably linked to the people who made it,” says Nina Smith, RugMark USA’s Executive Director, who spoke at the weeks’ closing event May 1. “Thanks to the commitment of businesspeople like Robin, children in South Asia are going to school instead of laboring on the looms.”

Gray’s rugs allude to traditional designs but are made contemporary and unique through the use of fresh colors, dimensional textures and striking patterns. Her designs reflect her attraction to the muted hues of natural vegetable dyes and the vivid palettes of Mexico, India and the Middle East. “My aim,” says Robin Gray, “is to preserve the cultural heritage and help sustain the livelihoods of my artisan partners.
