Spotlight On: Eeuwes Studio
Eeuwes Studio was formed in September 2009 by Canadian-born designer Liz Eeuwes. After graduating from the Glasgow School of Art, Liz was interested in bringing her rug designs to life. In Liz’s words, “We believe an integral part of our design process is our relationship with weavers from around the world. From the very beginning we have been GoodWeave certified.”
The studio creates hand knotted rugs in limited editions of 500. The first collection Landscapes is based on aerial views of landscapes from around the world. The rugs capture the delight of looking out the window of an aeroplane. The moment before landing when distance and size are blurred and the world is at your feet.” Landscapes launched at 100% Design Futures for new designers, winning a silver Blueprint award for Most Promising New Talent.
Eeuwes’ reputation as a label of authentic quality and contemporary style was consolidated by the launch of her second rug collection, Terre des Hommes, which builds on her personal experiences of rural Ontario with influences including Alexander Calder, Ezra Jack Keats, Barbara Hepworth, Hans Jean Arp and George Segal amongst others.
Eeuwes Studio rugs have been featured in Architects' Journal, Blueprint, I.D., Interior Design, Canadian House & Home, the Sunday Herald Magazine, Homes & Interiors Scotland and top design blogs.
