Spotlight On: Messenger Rugs

Santa Barbara, California

In the age-old tradition of storytelling, Messenger Rugs seeks to instill hope and healing through rugs designed with visually inspired tales from cultures around the world. The GoodWeave label on the underside of every Messenger Rug tells another story―that the weavers who made it were treated fairly.

Beautiful on a wall or floor, the rugs can be used as contemplative inspiration or as an active tool for prayer, meditation or yoga. "Serenity," the initial series of Messenger Rugs, borrows from the world’s contemplative traditions. The 3 x 4-foot rugs are made in Nepal using pure Tibetan wool, hand-carded, hand-spun and hand-dyed. The designs are then hand-knotted on upright looms at a count of 80 knots per square inch, resulting in a thick and luxurious pile.

Messenger Rugs is a social enterprise that keeps the well-being of the craftsperson at its heart. That social concern is expressed in the the independently certified and numbered GoodWeave label that assures customers no child was involved in making the beautiful rug.
